True Beginnings

Today my student was a darling 28-year old who is a true beginner. She’s thin and small boned like me so it was a surprise that she didn’t automatically float. Holding tension in your body, especially between the shoulder blades, can sink down everything below that spot. We worked on the front glide though it was frustrating for her. So to give her some more confidence in the water we went to the deeper spot, learned to tread water and do the jellyfish float. The jellyfish float was the ticket. She relaxed enough for her to back surface which informed her front float. Once she was able to feel the front float, I gently pushed on her feet for momentum as she glided up and back a full lap. Simple yet challenging.
